Federer reaches Madrid final - Plays Berdych

An awesome performance by Roger to reach the final and set up a clash with Tomas Berdych. He played well the whole match and never allowed Tipsarevic to settle into rhythm. 

It was very windy and Federer was on the front foot, playing the drop shot and coming into the net. Breaking Tipsarevic twice, he secured the set 6-2. 

Once again Federer broke at 2-1 in the 2nd set with a great cross-court forehand return. There were a few winners from Tipsarevic, but he never managed to adapt with the heavy wind that blew across the court. Aggressive play helped him save a match point, but Federer fired a first serve to secure a place in the final to face Berdych. 

Roger's 1st serve accuracy this whole tournament has been outstanding. An average 71% and his 2nd serve points won percentage has improved a lot. I predict if he repeats his serving accuracy, then he will beat Berdych in straight sets 6-4 6-4.

Federer beats Ferrer to reach Madrid semis

A good match for Roger, beating Ferrer in straight sets and now will face Janko Tipsarevic in the SF.

Federer broke at 1-1 after a double fault by Ferrer, it was crucial as both players were holding their serves well for the rest of the match. Ferrer seemed to be on the front foot in most baseline rallies and fired powerful winners all over the court. Federer was having no problems on his service games though and secured the first set 6-4.

Federer progresses to Madrid quarterfinals

After a five week rest for Roger, it was back to business in Madrid. He had to overcome a strong in-form Milos Raonic and Frenchman Richard Gasquet. 

Against Raonic, Federer was very rusty and lacking consistency in his ground strokes in the first set. Both players were holding their serve well, but a dreadful game from Federer led to Raonic serving out the set comfortably.

Roger Federer's 2011 Season Review

My first actual post - I had already written this early this year, but delayed the start of this blog. 

 
HARD COURT SEASON
Federer started 2011 on fire winning the Doha tournament ousting Nikolay Davydenko in the final, 6-3 6-4.
