Two total smashing victories for Roger at Wimbledon so far, it's a good sign for his chances at winning his 17th slam and reclaiming No.1! He beat Albert Ramos 6-1 6-1 6-1 and Fabio Fognini 6-1 6-3 6-2, dominant on serve and net play. That's only 9 games dropped in two matches, which is impressive for a player his age.
Both Ramos and Fognini were at no stage a threat to Roger and his aggressive play left them standing. The unforced error count has reduced - another good sign as in RG he was hitting many uncharacteristic errors which cost him sets in the early rounds and almost lost to Del Potro.
Roger has come into Wimbledon's early rounds with a much different game plan than he did at Roland Garros, serve and volley was one of the reasons why he played so here on grass, serving accuracy is higher now and he has also reduced his count of unforced errors - in RG, he hit at least 30 each match.
Roger will play Julien Benneteau next, who actually beat him in the 2nd Rd at Bercy 09 in their last meeting. There's no way he can do the same here, so I pick Roger to win 6-1 6-4 6-3.
“I was serving well,” said Federer. “You're not going to get many chances throughout a set, maybe, against me, when I'm serving well. I didn't think it was that easy of a match. [I] really tried to focus hard and made sure I played sort of a clean match, which I was able to do again today.”
